Bridge and Pre-College Programs

There's An Engineer in You!

"People who enjoy engineering and are successful in it tend to share common traits. The dominant engineering aptitude is structural visualization - the ability to visualize 3D objects in your mind. Analytical reasoning, mathematical ability, and to a lesser extent, memory for design are the other aptitudes that correlate with satisfaction and success in engineering, " according to JETS. 12-2004 publication. Engineering and Science Concepts Institute (ESCI)

Future Prairie View students interested in learning more about engineering and science professions may apply to take part in the Engineering and Science Concepts Institute. This innovative and intensive eight-week summer program introduces recent high school graduates to the profession of engineering as a viable career choice. ESCI uses the “team” concept and places students in a living-learning environment. Students are provided with foundations in mathematics, engineering, computer science and professional concepts for success in their fields of choice. The program takes place on the Prairie View campus and participants earn seven to nine hours of college course credit.

Minority Introduction To Engineering And Science (MITES)

The program is oriented toward high school students who are currently sophomores and juniors and who have an interest in engineering and science and who have demonstrated in high school the necessary ability to pursue a college education.   The program is 100% scholarship-based and covers all living and educational expenses for each admitted student. Students only pay for their transportation to and from PVAMU.

Summer Transportation Institute (STI)

This program is funded by the US Department of Transportation and is hosted by the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. Summer Transportation Institute (STI) is a four-week-residential program and its purpose is to introduce high school students to the transportation industry and the transportation careers in this country. STI recruits 15-20 bright students and exposes them to various exciting activities and fieldtrips that provide them an understanding of the transportation industry and the careers.
